Genesee-Finger Lakes Regional Bicycling Map

You are here

This map represents the first update to the Genesee Transportation Council’s Regional Bicycling Map since 2014.  The facilities shown and their accompanying metadata can be used as a guide for selecting routes to travel by bicycle between different origins and destinations.  Please be aware that facility conditions may change and that bicyclists must always be aware of vehicular traffic, pot holes and other road hazards including loose debris, open car doors, and pedestrians.  The Genesee Transportation Council accepts no responsibility for personal injuries or property damage resulting from the use of this map.

Bicycle Facility Information

The following describes the features of the types of bicycle facilities included in the Regional Cycling Map.

Bike Lane

Bike lanes provide a marked lane at street level for one way bike travel adjacent to vehicle traffic.

Cycle Track

Cycle tracks provide a completely separated right of way for the exclusive use of bicycles and pedestrians with crossflow by motorists minimized.

Bike Boulevard

Bike boulevards provide for shared-use on low vehicle traffic volume roadways.  These facilities are likely to include a variety of traffic calming measures as well as bicycle-oriented wayfinding signage.

Shared Use Paths and Trails

Shared use paths and trails are paved or unpaved multipurpose facilities suitable for recreational use by hikers, pedestrians, and off-road bicyclists.

Shared use paths and trails may have the following surface types:

  • Paved: Surface paved with asphalt or concrete
  • Stone Dust: Surface tightly packed with fine loose stone on top for a smooth ride
  • Crushed Stone: Surface of coarse or loose stone which may be uneven or bumpy
  • Unfinished: Surface of grass, dirt, or heavily worn stone dust or crushed stone.
